2021: Jan 1 – Jun 30

Like other technology and communications companies, Tumblr receives requests from governments and organizations around the world to either remove content from our services based on allegations that it violates local laws, or to review content to determine if it should be removed for inconsistency with a product’s Community Guidelines or our Terms of Service. Whatever the allegation or assertion, we carefully review each request and respond in accordance with our Global Principles for Responding to Government Requests.

Notes

  • Our government removal request data includes similar requests from non-governmental organizations which put dedicated resources towards reporting potential violations of Tumblr’s guidelines. This contributes to the significant volume in countries such as South Korea where the majority of requests come from the WHIRK organization. In future reports, we plan to more clearly delineate between requests from government entities and non-governmental organizations.
